“Creating One Community!”

Hello Neighbors!

MI State House District 5

Our state is in a mental health crisis! I am running for State Representative of District 5 to advocate for mental health, gun violence and public education in school ages pre k-12. We lack resources and beds to house adults and children who struggle with mental and behavioral health issues. I plan to create laws that hold gun manufacturers accountable that choose profit over public safety. Moreover, every child should have the right to literacy regardless of where they come from. I will see that the state budget has funding for these issues. Most importantly I am here to serve our community.

My family and I moved to the city of Oak Park and I graduated from Oak Park High School in 2001. I am a home owner raising my daughter in Oak Park.

Currently, I serve and volunteer on the following Boards, Committees and Organizations:

•Triumph Church, Hospitality Board

•State of Michigan, Behavioral Health Advisory Council

•City of Oak Park, Arts and Cultural Diversity Commission’s Juneteenth Subcommittee.

•East Oak Park Neighborhood Association Steering Committee

As a proud Oak Park High School Alumnus, it was a honor and a privilege to serve as Vice President on Oak Park School Board where I helped to build a comprehensive strategic plan and spearhead an adhoc committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion during COVID-19. I also volunteered to distribute hot spots and Google Chromebooks when schools went remote to provide accessible educational materials to every student in the district.

Today, I am running to be your next State Representative. I pledge that I will be Accessible, Accountable, Fair, Transparent, and Available. My job is to advocate for you and ensure that District 5 is a beautiful, safe place to live, work, and play for all residents. I am committed through volunteering and utilizing my experience to move District 5 forward!

Crystal Bailey ran for State Senate in the Primary Election of 2018 and ran in the General Election for the Oak Park Board of Education as a write-in. She became Vice President of the Oak Park School Board during COVID-19.

Now, she's running to be your State Representative in the new House District 5!

Priorities:

Mental Health:

The State of Michigan is in a Mental Health Crisis and I will fight to reopen mental health facilities. I will fight to implement a database or use current technology to allow mentally ill residents to register their home with Public Safety, which will alert first responders to arrive with a trained de-escalating approach!

Gun Violence:

I will continue to advocate for ending gun violence by creating laws that hold manufactures accountable who are putting profit over public safety. I will educate our House District 5 on the new Safe Storage and Red Flag Laws!

Public Education:

I will continue to fight to keep our students safe at school and work to create a structure that will hold Charters Schools accountable. We need to build uniformity around Detroit and Oak Park public school districts as well as between Charter, Traditional, and Private School.
